The HP 845 G7 is a typical design of the EliteBook line-one of the most elegant and modern office laptop series. The G7's silver aluminum chassis is slim with unique curves and rounded edges. The stylized, glossy HP logo further enhances its elegance. The single hinge is sturdy and smooth, allowing you to easily open the lid with one hand.

With these materials, the HP Elitebook 845 G7 has passed 12 MIL-STD 810H tests, plus 120,000 hours of reliability testing through HP's Comprehensive Test Process. Weighing 1.34kg with dimensions of 12.74 x 8.45 x 0.7 inches, the 845 G7 allows users to easily slip it into a backpack or handbag to carry to school or work.

Vivid display quality

The 14-inch Full HD IPS screen (1920x1080 pixels) creates crystal-clear images with saturated and very bright colors. The measured screen brightness is 250 nits with integrated HP Sure View privacy technology. HP Sure View protects sensitive information displayed on your computer screen by making it difficult for onlookers to view from the sides. However, it has one drawback: limited viewing angles compared to standard IPS panels.

The Elitebook 845 G7 is equipped with a quite diverse range of connectivity ports. On the left side, users will find a nano security slot, two USB Type-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a charging port, a combined headphone/microphone jack, and a smart card reader. On the right side of the computer, there is a power connector, an HDMI 2.0 port, two USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 ports, and an optional nano SIM card slot.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The black rubber Chiclet-style keys on the HP EliteBook are very responsive with good tactile feedback. The key travel is relatively deep with a reasonable layout. The keys are quiet, causing no noise during typing. Additionally, the keyboard features spill resistance with drainage holes beneath the vent cover, helping to protect your computer in unfortunate accidents. The keys have two levels of backlight, which is convenient for users working at night.

The ClickPad features a large, smooth glass surface with enabled multi-touch gestures. Two buttons are integrated into the touchpad and performed well during testing. Microsoft Precision drivers ensure an accurate finger gesture experience. The EliteBook also includes a Trackpoint above the ClickPad with two physical buttons. The Trackpoint takes a little time to get used to at first, but you will soon switch naturally between the Trackpoint and the ClickPad depending on your habit. The two physical buttons operate smoothly.

Audio & Webcam

The EliteBook 845 G7 is equipped with Bang & Olufsen speakers located along the edges of the keyboard. The audio is good for video calls, along with a 3-microphone array. The sound quality is above average but lacks bass and has moderate volume levels. Additionally, the EliteBook 845 G7 integrates HP Audio Control software, which is very helpful as it allows you to adjust its equalizer to get closer to your optimal audio configuration.

The 720p HD Webcam is surrounded by ambient light sensors and an infrared camera for facial authentication with Windows Hello. The webcam is standard, with below-average video quality and washed-out colors.

Our review unit today features the AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U APU inside the EliteBook 845 G7. Running at a base clock of 2.1 GHz and a max boost clock of up to 4.0 GHz with 6 cores and 12 threads, the TDP is 15 to 25 watts.

The PRO designation in the processor name provides a range of business features such as hardware security (e.g., AMD Memory Guard), offering enhanced manageability, longer availability, and software stability.

Additionally, with the support of 16GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB PCIe NVme M.2 SSD, the EliteBook can open 30 Chrome tabs and 5 YouTube videos without experiencing lag.

The Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U APU also integrates an AMD Radeon™ Vega Graphics integrated card that operates very stably and handles some light photo and video editing tasks. Therefore, it can play light games at low 1080P settings. For example: Fortnite, LoL, and CS: Go will play at low to medium settings.

Battery life

According to HP, this laptop is equipped with a 3-cell, 53Whr Li-ion battery. When reducing brightness to 50% and performing only light office applications, the Elitebook 845 G7 provides a battery life ranging from 7 to 9 hours. Additionally, the EliteBook supports HP Fast Charge, reaching up to 50% in 30 minutes with the slim 65W AC adapter.
