Sturdy and Lightweight Design

The processor equipped in the Dell Latitude 7490 is the Intel Core i7-8650U (4 cores, 8 threads) with a clock speed of up to 4.2GHz—the highest in the U Series CPUs—combined with 16GB of integrated RAM, allowing you to perform heavy tasks, multitasking, or multiple simultaneous jobs without worrying about slowdowns or errors. With this configuration, the Dell Latitude 7490 delivers extremely good multitasking performance, and the startup time for Windows and applications is very fast. The 2400 MHz RAM speed on the Latitude 7490 is also about 10% faster than the previous generation’s 2133 MHz.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU on the Latitude 7490 is not intended for heavy graphic workloads, but it performs well for most business task needs. However, the Dell Latitude 7490 can handle some popular games like League of Legends, PGBG mobile… smoothly at low settings.

Smooth Backlit Keyboard

Alongside Lenovo’s ThinkPad series, the Dell Latitude 5000 and 7000 series have always possessed highly-rated keyboards. The Latitude 7490 is no exception. Its chiclet keys are logically arranged with a familiar layout and excellent visibility. The key travel is approximately 2mm, providing good tactile feedback that supports fast typing without causing annoying noise. There is no clicking sound or unintended key movement.

Optimal Security

The Dell Latitude 7490 provides many security measures to satisfy even the most demanding enterprise managers. The device is equipped with a fingerprint reader along with an NFC reader. The IR Camera (for Windows Hello and facial recognition) has been replaced by a standard webcam. However, typical Dell Client Command Suite and related software are still available.

HD Quality Webcam

Inside, the two screen bezels are still quite thick; the webcam is located at the top and the Dell logo is at the bottom. The interior design is somewhat classic, but I find it very balanced with the machine. The webcam with HD resolution integrated into the Dell Latitude 7490 provides good image quality when used for photography or video calls.

Despite its compact size, the Latitude E7490 is integrated with quite many connection ports. These include a mini DisplayPort, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, a combined headphone/microphone jack, and an SD card reader on the right side, while a SmartCard reader is designed on the left side.
