DELL Precision 5540 Mobile Workstation

DELL Precision 5540 Mobile Workstation

Dell has completely redesigned its Precision workstation. The Dell Precision takes its styling from the XPS 15, with a 15.6-inch display, a thin and light body, and powerful performance. The Precision 5540 is easily one of the best workstations on the market today.

Who should use the Dell Precision 5540

It is aimed at professionals in graphic design who need a high-performance laptop that is still thin and light, so it is easy to carry from place to place.

Dell Precision 5540 Design

The chassis of the Dell Precision 5540 is a copy of the Dell XPS 15, which gives it a premium aluminum design, but the lid is simply silver with the Dell logo.

When you open it, the interior is made of black carbon fiber, with a compact keyboard and ultra-thin display bezels with the webcam on top. If you like the design of the XPS 15, you will certainly like the Precision 5540. At just 1.78kg and measuring 357.23 x 235.47 x (11.48-16.82) mm, the Precision 5540 is a relatively light and thin 15-inch laptop. That makes it easy to take this machine with you to work wherever you go.

Dell Precision 5530 Display

This workstation reaches 335 nits of brightness, higher than the ZBook Studio at 241 nits and the ThinkPad P50 at 276 nits, as well as the category average of 268 nits. That brightness gives it solid viewing angles, so you can easily see the screen from many different angles and even when light shines on it. The Dell Precision 5540's 1920 x 1080 display delivers good brightness, vivid colors, and sharp detail. The display specs of the Dell Precision 5540 are impressive: its Full-HD screen shows 113% of sRGB. That is better than the laptop average (94%).

Configuration

The Dell Precision comes in many configurations. CPU options include the i5-9400H and i7-9750H, storage options are a 256Gb SSD or a 500GB HDD, and graphics options are Intel UHD Graphics 630 or Nvidia Quadro T1000 4GB.

Ports

On the left edge are the power jack, one USB 3.1 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and a headphone jack, while the right edge has a lock slot, one USB 3.1 port, and an SD card slot.

Security and Durability

The Dell Precision 5540 passed 15 MIL-STD 810G tests, which means it can withstand extreme temperatures, altitude, sand, dust, humidity, shock, and more.

For security, the Precision 5540 offers an IR camera for Windows Hello and a TPM 2.0 security chip. You can also get it with vPro for remote management.
