Design – Small changes that make a difference

Compared to the previous X1 Carbon Gen 5 version, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6 does not look too different in overall design. The machine still uses a sturdy magnesium alloy frame, and the lid is crafted from carbon material. However, this year, the lid features the X1 logo on the left side, creating a luxurious highlight.

The machine still uses dual-side hinges, but they have been painted black to create a sense of uniformity. The screen bezels do not have many changes; however, Lenovo has designed the ThinkShutter slider for the machine, increasing security.

Upgraded display experience

The machine uses a Full HD screen with a premium IPS panel. However, the screen brightness is at a medium level, reaching only 300 nits, which is slightly difficult to use in strong lighting conditions. Despite this, the color gamut remains very high, with 94% sRGB and 67% AdobeRGB.

Additionally, the machine offers a 2K screen option, providing wider color coverage. Lenovo has also equipped the X1 Carbon Gen 6 series with a 2K HDR screen option, featuring Dolby Vision technology for realistic and sharp color reproduction.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard design is not much different from the 5th generation. The keyboard has a reasonable layout, deep key travel, and does not cause fatigue during long typing sessions. The keycaps are slightly curved, creating a smooth feel when using.

The touchpad design remains similar to the previous generation. The touchpad surface is covered with smooth glass, creating a very smooth gliding sensation. The gesture system is sensitive and does not experience delay during use. The two mouse buttons have high responsiveness and produce a quiet clicking sound.

The Trackpoint is an indispensable feature on ThinkPad laptops. The Trackpoint fits the hand well and offers precise tracking. The auxiliary mouse button system is very responsive and has a tactile click.

Connectivity ports
