DELL Latitude 5520 (2021)

It is one of the best laptops to buy in 2021. Join Hung Phat Laptop as we take a closer look at this premium laptop in the article below.

The Dell Latitude 5520 has a slim, light, stylish design

The Dell Latitude 5520 has a slim, light, elegant design that resembles its sibling, the Dell XPS 15. The chassis is made from carbon fiber combined with premium aluminum, making it sturdy and able to withstand impacts well.

The whole machine is finished in a refined gray. A black Dell logo sits at the center, making the laptop stand out and look many times more upscale. The corners and edges are rounded and soft, reminiscent of a premium MacBook.

The 2021 Dell Latitude 5520 weighs 1.59kg and measures 19.87 mm x 14.09 mm x 9.19mm. Its compact, lightweight build makes it easy to carry to school, work, business trips or meetings.

A large Full HD display

The Dell Latitude 5520 display features Infinity Edge technology with ultra-thin bezels. It is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920x1080 pixel) screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, delivering the best possible visual experience.

The display offers high clarity, with good color reproduction and contrast. Its brightness of 400 nits is higher than the Thinkpad P50 at 276 nits and just behind the Macbook Pro at 429 nits. This brightness delivers accurate viewing angles, even at 45 degrees to the left or right, or when you look at the screen off-axis.

This premium laptop is also equipped with a bright IPS LCD panel, so the Dell Latitude 5520 lets you work in a wide range of environments, especially outdoors.

The screen is also protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which feels safe and solid and makes touch interaction feel more natural.

In addition, the 2021 Dell Latitude 5520 includes Intel ® facial recognition sensor technology, so you can sign in instantly through the IR camera and Windows Hello. When you walk away, the laptop locks automatically, keeping your important information safe from strangers.

Dell Latitude 5520 audio

The Dell Latitude 5520 is equipped with up to 4 speakers from Waves MaxxAudio® Pro, rated at 2W x 2W. They deliver excellent sound reproduction and vivid 3D audio, and the laptop is regarded as one of the best Ultrabooks to buy in 2021.

The Dell 5520 comes with a full set of ports

Despite its slim, light design, the Dell Latitude 5520 still includes a full set of ports to meet your work needs: 1 USD 4.0 memory card reader, 1 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 USB 3.2 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 RJ45 network port, 1 wedge lock slot, 2 Thunderbolt ™ 4 ports, 1 SmartCard reader and 1 external eSIM slot that lets you connect to multiple carriers on business trips.

Notably, the 2 Type-C ™ Thunderbolt ™ 4 ports support two 4K displays or one 8K display, with fast transfer speeds that make entertainment a great experience every time.

Beyond the physical ports, the 2021 Latitude 5520 also supports Wifi 6 on the 6GHz band, giving you faster, smoother wifi, especially in crowded areas.

Keyboard and touchpad

The 2021 Dell Latitude 5520 has fairly large keys, yet the spacing between them stays even. The keys have good travel and respond quickly, and typing is quiet, which keeps users comfortable.

Thanks to its 15.6 inch size, the Dell 5520 also has a numeric keypad on the left side, which speeds up data entry.

The touchpad is fairly large and sits slightly off-center toward the left hand, so you can easily control the entire screen without ever reaching the edge of the touchpad. It also handles multitasking gestures very well.

The Dell Latitude 5520 delivers powerful performance

Now for performance. Although it is as slim and light as a premium Ultrabook, the Dell 5520 delivers performance on par with professional workstation lines.

It is powered by the latest 11th generation Intel® Core™ i7 processor with 4 cores and 12 threads and clock speeds from 3.0 GHz up to 4.8GHz, backed by a very capable 8GB of RAM, so it handles all office tasks smoothly.

In storage speed tests, the 2021 Dell Latitude 5520 also surprised many people with its 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD, which offers good memory performance and ample capacity to store important documents comfortably. Boot times are also fairly fast.

For graphics, the Dell Latitude 5520 uses Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Although it is an onboard graphics card, it delivers outstanding performance compared with other integrated graphics. For example, Iris Xe Graphics can deliver high-quality visuals at 1080p resolution with a 60FPS refresh rate to boost gaming performance. As a result, specialized graphics software such as Photoshop and Ai, video rendering and online games all run smoothly.

Battery life

According to the manufacturer, the Dell Latitude 5520 has a 4-cell battery. In tests with the 63Whr battery, 200 nits of brightness and only light office tasks, the laptop lasts up to 10 - 12 hours. However, if you play games or do graphics work, battery life will drop.

The laptop also supports ExpressCharge Boost fast charging, which charges up to 35% in about 20 minutes or 80% within 1 hour. That means you can use the laptop all day without a power adapter.

Conclusion

In short, based on everything we have seen above, the Dell Latitude 5520 is truly a premium Ultrabook worth buying in 2021. It has a slim, light design, a strong configuration and outstanding performance, and it also comes with many other smart technologies that not every premium laptop line can offer.
