A hacker group has just released the most powerful Windows and Office activation tool to date, which many experts are calling “the biggest breakthrough in the history of cracking Microsoft software.” The method can permanently activate most Microsoft products, bypassing the company's digital rights management (DRM) protections entirely. So far, though, Microsoft appears to have made no response to the release.
Massgrave and its new weapon, TSforge Activation
Massgrave, the mysterious hacker group behind some of the most effective Windows and Office activation tools, has just added a completely new weapon to its arsenal - a method called “TSforge Activation”. It can permanently activate many versions of Windows and Office, and it also lets users keep receiving Windows 10 updates even after Microsoft ends support in October 2025.
The group launched the Microsoft Activation Scripts (MAS) project in 2024, claiming it would completely break Microsoft's DRM protections. The latest MAS 3.0 update officially adds the TSforge Activation method, along with a number of bug fixes and improvements to the existing activation tools.
According to Massgrave, TSforge is one of the most powerful and influential activation methods ever added to MAS. In a recent blog post, the group revealed the details of how TSforge was developed, offering a deep look at how Windows licensing protection works and how it can be bypassed.
How TSforge exploits weaknesses in Microsoft's security system (Windows + Office)
Microsoft currently relies on an advanced licensing protection system called the Software Protection Platform (SPP). It is a complex mechanism designed to prevent unauthorized activation using multiple layers of security. Within it, Windows and Office activation information is stored in two key files:
• data.dat (Physical Store): Stores the original software licensing data.
• tokens.dat (Token Store): Holds license authentication information and the activation status of the product.
The TSforge Activation method exploits this system by injecting forged data into the two files above, causing the system to accept a fake product key or fake confirmation ID as valid. This bypasses the license checks entirely, allowing users to activate software without needing a Microsoft server.
Affected versions
According to Massgrave, TSforge supports most versions of Windows and Office, including:
• Windows 7 and later, including Windows Server from 2008 R2 through Windows Server 2025.
• Microsoft Office 2013 through Office 2024, running on Windows 8 or newer.
The tool can also activate commercial Windows extensions, including the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for certain versions of Windows 7 through 10.
One of TSforge's most notable features is that it allows Windows 10 to keep receiving security updates for longer, using methods similar to those once used to keep Windows 7 updated after its support ended.
Microsoft still has not responded - what comes next?
Although TSforge Activation could seriously undermine Microsoft's licensing protections, the company has yet to take any action to stop the method. That has stirred plenty of debate in the tech community, since a major hole in Microsoft's DRM system has been exploited in public.
Even more surprising, Massgrave actually praised Microsoft for designing a DRM system far more advanced than its predecessors. The group specifically compared SPP with the weak DRM of Windows XP, which was easily cracked.
Is TSforge piracy?
Massgrave maintains that the Microsoft Activation Scripts (MAS) toolkit is not truly piracy, because:
- MAS is an open-source project and is hosted on GitHub, a platform owned by Microsoft.
- TSforge is just an alternative activation method, rather than a tool for destroying DRM.
- There are even rumors that Microsoft employees use the tool too in cases where official activation methods do not work.
