The new MacBook Pro M4 models are rumored to launch next month alongside the iPad mini 7 and the standard iPad, but will there be any other changes to these devices besides the new processor? It seems the company may decide to implement some notable improvements if deemed necessary, and the upgrades could be more significant than expected. For example, Apple might integrate Face ID technology into the MacBook Pro, and one piece of evidence supporting this hypothesis is the company’s new Apple Store app.
The main screen of the Apple Store app displays the Face ID logo on a MacBook, but this could be a coincidence rather than intentional.
Mark Gurman recently pointed out that new graphics on the Apple Store app’s home page show the Face ID logo on a MacBook. The analyst is unsure whether the new models will be equipped with the new authentication technology, but with the MacBook Pro already having a notch at the top, it is not unreasonable to assume that new hardware will debut.
Apple has implemented Face ID technology on iPhone models, and the iPhone SE 4 is expected to completely eliminate Touch ID, as it is predicted to be similar to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 14 in design and functionality. Furthermore, the company has also transitioned iPad Pro and iPad Air models to use Face ID. Meanwhile, the iPad mini and standard iPad still retain Touch ID on the power button.
We had predicted that the iPhone SE 4 would switch to Face ID, but the upcoming iPad mini 7 and budget iPad will continue to use Touch ID. If you look at the screenshots shared by Mark Gurman on X, the Apple TV app’s home page displays various logos and devices, including the Vision Pro. You can also see a Touch ID logo located outside the image of the MacBook Pro.
Apple may be working on making the transition, but there is little evidence to suggest that the upcoming M4 MacBook Pro models will be the version to bring this change. Equipping the MacBook with Face ID is highly logical as it would allow users to access the home screen directly, eliminating the need to physically press the Touch ID button. This would not only be faster but also more secure, and users have desired this technology for a long time.
Take this information with a grain of salt, as the Face ID logo on the MacBook Pro in the Apple Store app’s home screen might just be a random addition rather than an intention. For now, we predict that the MacBook Pro models will maintain their current external design without hardware changes, but the internal components will be upgraded to the latest M4 SoC and possibly WiFi 7 to improve connectivity.
