Intel has struggled to keep pace in the mobile processor market for years, watching from the sidelines as competitors like Apple made massive leaps in performance. However, if early reviews are accurate, the chip giant’s latest Lunar Lake product line could help them reclaim their lost ground. A series of laptops utilizing these new processors are about to hit the market, and the reported battery life specifications are highly impressive.

The Lenovo PC YouTube channel recently tested the upcoming Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition laptop, comparing its Intel Core Ultra 7 258V Lunar Lake chip against Apple’s M2 and M3 processors. The test involved playing a 1080p video at 24fps, with brightness fixed at 150 nits and Wi-Fi turned off.

The MacBook Air M2 lasted 18 hours and 19 minutes, while the M3 model lasted slightly longer at 18 hours and 32 minutes. However, the Yoga Slim 7i continued to run, ultimately exhausting its battery after an impressive 23 hours and 54 minutes.

Notably, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i is equipped with a 70Wh battery, slightly larger than the 66.5Wh battery found in MacBook models. However, the Lenovo’s runtime lasted nearly a third longer, making the battery size advantage negligible.

Of course, video playback is just one of many scenarios. Real-world performance under heavy workloads will be the true test. Winning the battery life race isn’t just about extending movie playback—it’s about achieving the perfect balance across various types of tasks.

It is also worth noting that Lenovo’s results are only a small fraction of what other laptop manufacturers in the Lunar Lake market are promising. For instance, Acer stated that some of its models could run for up to 29 hours with a 65Wh battery. Asus has also made similar promises for its upcoming ExpertBook line. Furthermore, we cannot forget that AMD’s new Zen 5 chips and Qualcomm’s high-performance X-series chips will also be competing in the premium mobile segment.

The tested Lenovo laptop is equipped with a Core Ultra 7 258V processor paired with 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 8,533 MHz on Windows 11 version 24H2. This is one of Intel’s highest-end products in the Lunar Lake lineup, so these results represent high-level performance.

The Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition features a 15.3-inch LCD screen with 1,800p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. If an OLED screen were used, the battery life could potentially be even better. Other key specifications include a 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD, WiFi 7 support, and a 70Wh battery. Starting prices begin at $1,279.99, with a market release expected in the coming weeks.
