Design - Simple yet Distinctive

Much like its predecessor, the XPS 9500 features a precision-cut, sturdy CNC aluminum chassis. The frame is fully reinforced with durable magnesium alloy, while the top cover is finished with a smooth, luxurious carbon fiber layer. However, if you look closely, the bottom panel is no longer a single flat piece of aluminum; it now features two ridges to secure the display assembly, preventing the cracking issues seen in previous versions. The overall dimensions are also slightly larger to accommodate the 16:10 aspect ratio display.

The InfinityEdge display has always been the highlight of this machine. Unlike last year's XPS 7590, all borders of the XPS 9500 are uniformly thin. The hinge design remains seamless but is thinner and more optimized for thermal management.

As a multimedia Ultrabook, this machine features high-performance Intel Comet Lake processors, with four options: Core i5 10300H, Core i7 10750H, Core i7 10875H, and Core i9 10885H. With such diverse CPU options, users can choose the chip that best fits their workflow. Featuring the i7 10875H and i9 10885H options with 8 cores and 16 threads, the machine promises a significantly better cooling system compared to its predecessor.

The laptop also offers two graphics options: integrated UHD 630 or the discrete Nvidia GTX 1650Ti. With the discrete graphics option, users can comfortably render high-resolution videos and handle heavy graphic applications.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Alongside a completely new design, Dell has equipped its flagship with a new keyboard style that is more balanced and harmonious. The machine features a deep key travel and smooth, flat keycaps. The power button is integrated directly into the keyboard but is made firmer and requires more force to press, making accidental presses unlikely. Additionally, the power button also serves as a highly sensitive one-touch fingerprint sensor.

The touchpad is designed to be exceptionally large, with a smooth, premium glass surface. The touchpad responsiveness is excellent with sensitive gestures. The two integrated mouse buttons provide a soft, solid click feel, though they are somewhat audible.

Connectivity System

To align with current minimalist trends, the entire DELL XPS line in general, and the DELL XPS 15 9500 in particular, has removed almost all traditional ports, replacing them with USB Type C. The machine is equipped with three USB Type C 3.2 Gen 2 ports; however, only the two ports on the left side support Thunderbolt 3, while the port on the right side only supports Power Delivery and video output. It still retains a 3.5mm combo headphone jack and a traditional SD card slot.
