Dell’s renowned XPS laptop lineup is officially returning to its roots, a timing that perfectly coincides with the launch of Intel’s next major mobile platform. At CES 2026, the computer manufacturer introduced two flagship models, the XPS 16 and XPS 14, while also offering a glimpse of the upcoming XPS 13. The most notable commonality is that all these devices are built on Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 3 processors, also known by the code name Panther Lake.
Premium Design and the Return of the Dell XPS Brand
These new laptops mark a significant reset for Dell in terms of both hardware and branding. This is the official comeback of the legendary XPS name, combined with Intel’s latest mobile architecture, high-refresh-rate OLED panels, LPDDR5X RAM capacities of up to 64GB, and expanded storage up to several terabytes with Gen5 speeds. This move also officially puts an end to the brief and controversial naming experiments such as Dell, Dell Pro, or Dell Pro Max, bringing the company’s premium laptop strategy back to the focus of the XPS badge.
Regarding product positioning, the XPS 16 and XPS 14 (2026) are aimed at being thin and light productivity machines, optimized for efficiency rather than being bulky gaming rigs or desktop replacements. Dell continues to use precision CNC-machined aluminum for the chassis and Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the display. The new models feature a starting thickness of just 14.6mm and a weight of approximately 1.36 kg (3 pounds), ensuring they sit firmly in the ultra-portable category despite their large screen sizes and high-end silicon configurations.
The display and battery specifications are aimed directly at users who frequently work on the go throughout the day. Dell offers impressive figures of up to 27 hours of battery life for general tasks, or over 40 hours for local video playback, depending on the configuration and workload. While these are theoretical figures, they demonstrate highly positive power management capabilities revolving around Intel’s latest architecture and Dell’s own fine-tuning.
Powerful Performance from Intel Panther Lake Chips and Pricing
Processor options for the XPS 16 and XPS 14 range from the Core Ultra 5 325 and Core Ultra 7 355 to the higher-end Core Ultra X7 358H and the flagship Core Ultra X9 388H. The highest configuration with the X9 388H chip provides up to 16 CPU cores running at a maximum speed of 5.1GHz, supported by 18MB of cache and 12 graphics cores based on the new Xe3 architecture.
Power consumption and temperature metrics are disclosed much more clearly by Dell than in previous launches, which will certainly attract performance-conscious buyers. Dell states that the XPS 16 operates at 25W in “Optimized” configuration and 35W in “Performance” mode, while the smaller XPS 14 model is tuned to 19W and 27W for the respective modes. When the system requires maximum performance, both laptops can push the platform up to 65W under full turbo conditions.
To maintain that thermal load, Dell has switched to a dual-fan cooling setup. The company stated that these fans are 61% larger than previous versions while generating 36% less noise. The memory and storage configurations reflect the expectations of a premium, work-oriented customer base. Dell offers RAM options of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB in LPDDR5X standard, with speeds ranging from 7467 MT/s to 9600 MT/s. For storage, buyers can choose NVMe SSD capacities of 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, and up to 4TB based on the PCIe Gen4 standard. This platform can also support Gen5 SSDs for users looking to push sequential read speeds to 14 GB/s or higher.
In addition to the 14 and 16-inch models, Dell also provided a glimpse of the next XPS 13. The company described it as the thinnest and lightest XPS ever, with a thickness of under 13mm while maintaining the design language of its “big brothers,” including premium OLED displays and the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Panther Lake platform. The new XPS 13 model is not yet available and is expected to launch later this year. Regarding pricing, the XPS 16 starts at $2,199, while the XPS 14 starts at $2,049, with both models expected to be available on the market immediately.
