The ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air smartphone is predicted to be cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro version. In fact, the price of the iPhone 17 Air may be comparable to the price of the iPhone 16 Plus.

Last month, the Wall Street Journal announced that the iPhone 17 Air will be priced lower than the iPhone 17 Pro version, contradicting previous rumors suggesting this new ultra-thin iPhone would be priced even higher than the iPhone Pro Max model.

In a recent report, Wall Street Journal provided more information about the long-discussed iPhone. Specifically, internal sources indicate that starting from 2025, Apple plans to launch an iPhone that is approximately 8 mm thinner than current models.

“This iPhone version is designed with a lower price point than the Pro lines and features a simplified camera system to reduce costs,” Wall Street Journal stated.

This information differs from previous reports; in May 2024, The Information revealed that this device could potentially be priced higher than the iPhone Pro Max, which is currently Apple’s most expensive version with a starting price of $1,200.

According to 9to5Mac, if the iPhone 17 Air is released at a higher price than the iPhone Pro Max, it would need to be priced at a minimum of $1,199, or even up to $1,299.

“A thinner iPhone with fewer features, reduced battery life, and only one camera seems like it might not be worth it. While the product will have an attractive appearance and could pave the way for thinner iPhone generations in the future, the reason to buy it is not yet truly convincing,” 9to5Mac remarked.

However, if the new reports are correct, users can expect the iPhone 17 Air to be priced lower than the iPhone 17 Pro version.

In fact, if there is no price increase for the iPhone 17 Pro line, the iPhone 17 Air could have a starting price of $899, equivalent to the price of the iPhone 16 Plus.

Apple may be hoping that this attractive price point will attract consumers. This would also be the first iPhone model in many years to have a design significantly different from previous versions.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 model (tentatively called the iPhone 17 Air) is expected to launch late this year with a thickness of only 5.5 mm at its thinnest point.

If this information is accurate, the iPhone 17 Air will become Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever, surpassing the record of the iPhone 6 (6.9 mm). For comparison, a 5.5 mm thickness is approximately 30% thinner than the iPhone 6/6 Plus and 33% thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro/16 Pro Max.

Kuo emphasized that the 5.5 mm thickness is recorded at the thinnest point, meaning the rear camera module will likely protrude. According to rumors, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature only a single 48 MP rear camera.
