Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17 lineup at its annual event held in Cupertino, California. Notably, the standard iPhone 17 version receives a series of significant upgrades in display, performance, and camera systems—all while maintaining the same price point as the previous generation, making it a worthwhile upgrade choice.
120Hz ProMotion Display Debuts on Standard iPhone
While maintaining the familiar design from the iPhone 16, the iPhone 17 is equipped with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display featuring ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz—a first for the standard version. This adaptive refresh rate can drop to 1Hz to save battery when unnecessary and ramp up to the maximum when scrolling or gaming to provide a smooth experience.
The new display achieves an outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits, along with a 7-layer anti-reflective coating, improving clarity under intense light. Apple also features Ceramic Shield 2 on the glass, promising three times the durability of the previous generation.
Internally, the device is powered by the Apple A19 processor built on a 3nm process, integrating a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. According to Apple, the CPU performance is 1.5x faster than the A15 chip on the iPhone 13, while the GPU is twice as fast. Additionally, AI processing cores allow generative AI models to run directly on the device, ensuring user privacy.
Dual 48MP Camera, Longer Battery Life, and Next-Gen Connectivity
The rear camera system of the iPhone 17 has been significantly upgraded with a 48MP main sensor supporting 4K 60fps video recording and 2x optical zoom capability. There is also a 48MP ultra-wide camera, replacing the previous 12MP sensor, providing sharper group or landscape shots. The front camera features an 18MP resolution, meeting the needs for selfies and FaceTime calls.
The iPhone 17 also comes with a larger battery, providing up to 30 hours of video playback, an 8-hour increase compared to the iPhone 16. Another notable improvement is the new Apple N1 connectivity chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. As a result, features like Hotspot or AirDrop operate faster and more stably.
The device runs on iOS 26, accompanied by a suite of smart AI-based features such as Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, the Liquid Glass interface, and on-device content suggestions.
The iPhone 17 will be available in: Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, and Black, with 256GB and 512GB storage options. Starting price is from 799 USD, with pre-orders opening on September 12 and official sales starting September 19.
