The Samsung PM9E1 Gen5 SSD will provide extremely fast data transfer speeds, reaching up to 14.5 GB/s in sequential read and a maximum of 13 GB/s for sequential write.
Samsung has kicked off mass production of the PM9E1 Gen5 SSD, serving mainstream AI PC platforms and providing the first glimpse into the “consumer” performance of the Gen 5 line.
The company has begun mass-producing its fastest Gen5 SSD to date. This announcement was posted on a personal blog, detailing the features and technical specifications of the PM9E1 Gen5, which is expected to be the highest-performing storage drive in the industry.

The Samsung PM9E1 Gen5 SSD is manufactured using proprietary 5nm controller technology and eighth-generation V-NAND (V8) technology, allowing the drive to achieve high storage capacities and excellent reliability. Additionally, this SSD can achieve extremely fast sequential read and write speeds of 14.5 GB/s and 13 GB/s, respectively.

Starting with the PM9E1, Samsung plans to expand its advanced SSD product lines to global PC manufacturers and expects to launch consumer-based PCIe 5.0 products in the future to strengthen its leadership position in the on-device AI market.
Samsung stated that the PM9E1 Gen5 will deliver exceptional performance and improved energy efficiency, making it an ideal choice for AI PCs. In addition to performance and power savings, the PM9E1 also offers better security compared to its predecessor, the PM9A1a SSD. This product integrates the Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) v1.2, providing technologies such as Secure Channels, device authentication, and firmware integrity certification to prevent spoofing and tampering attacks.

Through the Gen5 interface, the Samsung PM9E1 SSD can achieve sequential read/write speeds twice as fast as previous versions, making it a powerful solution for data-intensive AI applications. This allows it to transfer up to 14GB of a Large Language Model (LLM) into DRAM in less than a second. Simultaneously, it also enhances battery life for devices like laptops with over 50% higher power efficiency.
The PM9E1 Gen5 will be available in various capacities, including 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. Casual users will find 512 GB and 1 TB capacities sufficient, while content creators and enthusiasts can store more data, such as high-resolution video, games, applications, and AI-generated content, on the 2 TB and 4 TB drives.
The official market release date for this product has not yet been announced, and Samsung has not yet disclosed prices for the different capacities of the PM9E1 Gen5. Samsung has also confirmed that they plan to expand their Gen5 SSD product line to global PC manufacturers and expect to launch more PCIe 5.0 products aimed at the consumer market in the near future.
