Microsoft is step-by-step transforming the Xbox PC App into a comprehensive game management hub by allowing users to access game libraries from various platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and more. This is a significant step toward a seamless and easy gaming experience, especially on increasingly popular handheld gaming devices.

Xbox PC App expands platform integration capabilities

The new Xbox App feature is currently being rolled out for testing to the Xbox Insiders user group. Instead of having to open each separate launcher, users can now see their entire game library – including third-party titles – displayed directly within the Xbox App. When installing a new game from a supported platform, it will automatically appear in the Xbox app interface, saving time and effort.

This integration not only makes game management more convenient but also demonstrates Microsoft‘s ambition to compete directly with gaming operating systems like SteamOS, which already provides a similar experience for devices like the Steam Deck.

Optimizing the gaming experience on handheld devices

One of the key directions for the Xbox App is serving the needs of mobile gaming. With the emergence of devices like the ASUS ROG Ally – which is optimized specifically for gamers – consolidating all games into a single application helps users make the most of their hardware and software without having to constantly exit applications.

Additionally, Microsoft is also developing an “Xbox full-screen experience” similar to Steam Big Picture or the SteamOS interface, allowing for controller navigation and bringing a true console experience to the PC platform.

Expansion potential and initial limitations

Although the current integration feature supports many popular platforms, some major names have not yet been included, such as GOG, EA app, Ubisoft Connect, or Itch.io. However, with a clear direction and positive feedback from the community, it is highly likely that Microsoft will continue to expand this list in the near future.

This change shows that Xbox is on the right track in providing an open, flexible ecosystem focused on user experience. This is the strength that helps the Xbox PC App become not just a support tool for console gamers, but also a bridge for the PC gaming community in general.
