The Dell Precision mobile workstation line will soon welcome new members to the Precision 7000 family, featuring powerful configurations, modular design, and two special features: CAMM and DGFF.
Initial leaks regarding the Dell Precision 7000 Series suggest two models, the Precision 7770 and Precision 7760, belonging to the high-end workstation laptop segment. The new products feature a significant upgrade in processing power, moving from 8-core Intel Comet Lake CPUs to 16-core Intel Alder Lake-HX CPUs. These processors share the same architecture as desktop versions, consisting of 8 Performance cores and 8 Efficiency cores, utilizing HyperThreading technology to deliver 24 threads. Users will have options for Intel Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 CPUs with a 55 W TDP.
Regarding graphics, the Dell Precision 7000 Series will be equipped with GPUs from both NVIDIA and Intel, offering diverse choices, with the highest being the RTX A5000 16 GB and Intel Arc with a TDP in the 90 – 125 W range, making them likely ACM-G10 GPU models. The internal DDR5-4800 memory can reach capacities of up to 128 GB non-ECC or 64 GB ECC, while maximum storage includes 4 M.2 2280 slots supporting PCIe Gen 4×4. The Precision 7000 also supports Thunderbolt 4 and features a 4K OLED display with HDR500, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 500 nits brightness, and slim bezels.
Inside the Dell Precision 7000 is a vapor chamber cooling system paired with dual fans. Additionally, the highlights of the Precision 7000 are two new features: CAMM (Compression Attached Memory Module) and DGFF (Dell Graphics Form Factor). CAMM (pictured above) is a DDR5-4800 memory module designed exclusively by Dell; essentially, one CAMM module can replace two SO-DIMM slots, thereby saving space. However, CAMM will limit RAM upgradeability, as users will be required to purchase modules provided by Dell. Meanwhile, DGFF is another new form factor developed by Dell for GPUs. Although specific details on DGFF are unavailable, it is speculated that this new form factor may enable GPU replacement for the Dell Precision 7000 Series.
For now, the release date of the new Dell Precision remains unknown, but it could be in Q3/2022, as Intel is expected to introduce Intel Arc GPUs for workstations around that time.
