The Intel Core i9-12900K can achieve higher single-core scores than any desktop CPU currently on the market.

Member hw_reveal recently posted an image on Twitter, showing that the Intel Core i9-12900K achieved 30,549 multi-core points in the Cinebench R23 test. Since some 12th Gen Intel “Alder Lake” qualification sample chips have already appeared in China at prices over $1,000 USD, and partner manufacturers are likely in the CPU testing phase, it is highly probable that the leaked information in the image is accurate.

The test was conducted using a Gigabyte Z690 AORUS Ultra motherboard and DDR5-5200 RAM. What is noteworthy about this score is that the Core i9-12900K chip appears to have not been tuned, modified, or overclocked at all. This score surpasses both the AMD Threadripper 2990WX (30,054 points) and the Ryzen 9 5950X when not overclocked (which typically falls around 28,000 points). The AMD Ryzen 9 5950X has a retail price of $799 USD, and if the recent leaked information is correct, the Core i9-12900K at only $605 USD would be incredibly impressive.

This impressive performance may be due to Intel’s hybrid architecture, which combines performance cores with efficiency cores on a single chip. While we haven’t seen the single-core CPU score yet, hw_reveal indicated it is over 2,000 points, meaning it is higher than any desktop CPU currently on the market. You can refer to the Cinebench R23 aggregate score table here.

If this leak is accurate, it will be a turning point for Intel. 12th Gen Intel CPUs are expected to launch in late 2021, possibly as early as October. Let’s wait and see if the flagship “Alder Lake” chip’s real-world performance lives up to the hype.
