NVIDIA has just confirmed that their GeForce RTX 5080 GPU will utilize the latest GDDR7 memory modules from various partners.
GeForce RTX 50 GPUs, including the RTX 5080, will adopt GDDR7 memory from multiple suppliers.
We have confirmed with NVIDIA that the GeForce RTX 5080 GPU will use GDDR7 VRAM chips from multiple manufacturers. This information is crucial because, yesterday, several images of the RTX 5090 PCB were released, featuring Samsung GDDR7 memory.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 is a standout product in the RTX 50 “Blackwell” lineup. It is the only card with faster memory specifications compared to other products in the series. While other cards use GDDR7 memory at 28 Gbps, the RTX 5080 is equipped with GDDR7 memory at 30 Gbps. To meet supply demands, NVIDIA is sourcing 30 Gbps GDDR7 memory chips from multiple DRAM partners, including Samsung and Micron.

The use of multiple suppliers is actually beneficial since GDDR7 is still in its early stages, and each memory provider needs time to scale up production for higher-spec modules. A few weeks ago, we reported that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 would be equipped with 32 Gbps memory modules; while this was the initial plan, it seems production constraints have forced NVIDIA to pivot to a slightly lower specification.
We will likely see faster speeds in updated versions, and we also predict higher VRAM options in the future with 3 GB modules (does anyone want an RTX 5080 with 24 GB?).
