Snapdragon X Series - New Graphics Driver Helps Optimize Windows Arm Performance

This new driver version for the Snapdragon X Series brings significant improvements in stability and performance, especially for games and AI applications. Qualcomm has implemented a series of optimizations to ensure compatibility with demanding games and content creation platforms. Some key improvements include:

  • Improved stability for games such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Helldivers 2, Palworld, Jagged Alliance 3, World War Z, Cities: Skylines II, Genshin Impact…
  • Performance optimization for titles like Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Sims 4, Borderlands 3.
  • Fixed display issues and increased performance for graphics applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Blender, WPS Office…
  • Upgraded compatibility with Chromium WebGL, patched the QPSI security vulnerability, and added support for cl_khr_d3d11_sharing.

This is a major step forward in building the gaming ecosystem for Windows on Arm, as Qualcomm increasingly collaborates closely with developers to ensure the best possible experience.

Some Limitations and Important Notes

Despite the many improvements, the update still has some issues:

  • Not yet compatible with Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and requires the latest BIOS for Galaxy Book4 Edge (after 7/5/2024).
  • Some devices may fail to install or encounter errors; users should revert to the OEM driver if serious issues occur.
  • Games requiring AVX/AVX2 instructions are not supported on the current version of Windows.
  • Some anti-cheat kernel drivers are still incompatible.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 encounters issues at default settings on some devices; it is recommended to switch to low settings.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 may encounter errors when changing display modes when connected to an external monitor; a game restart is required to fix this.

Snapdragon and the Development Direction of the Windows on ARM Ecosystem

With this update, Qualcomm is demonstrating significant effort in building a more stable Windows on Arm hardware platform for both general users and gamers. The performance improvements across many popular applications and the ability to run many AAA titles smoothly have brought the Snapdragon X platform closer to a traditional PC experience.

While there are still some limitations to address, it is clear that Qualcomm is moving in the right direction by continuously releasing fast and effective updates. If you are using a device running the Snapdragon X Series, now is the ideal time to test the new driver and experience the noticeable performance improvements.
