With technology advancing nonstop, picking a laptop that fits your needs and budget has become more complicated than ever. Two of Intel's newest chips, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U and the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, have drawn plenty of consumer attention. Let's dig into a side-by-side comparison to see how they differ and which one best suits your needs.
Intel Core Ultra 7 155U
Starting with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, this is one of Intel's newest processors, designed specifically for mobile devices such as laptops and tablets. With 12 cores and a base clock of up to 1.7 GHz, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U promises strong performance and significant power savings.
One of the standout points of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is its higher base clock compared with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, at 1.7 GHz. That means the chip can handle everyday tasks faster and more efficiently, which makes for smoother use and better responsiveness to what users need.
Multi-Core and Single-Core Performance
Comparing multi-core and single-core performance, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H holds a slight edge over the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U. In the single-core Cinebench R23 test, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H scored 1,733, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U managed only 1,724. In the multi-core test, however, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H pulls well ahead with a score of 13,144, which is 37% higher than the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U at just 9,526 points.
This shows that if you need to handle heavily threaded work such as video editing, 3D rendering, or multitasking apps, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is the better choice. If you mainly use your machine for simple tasks like web browsing, word processing, or light gaming, though, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U can still meet your needs well.
Power Consumption and Temperature
Another plus for the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U over the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is its lower power draw. The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 57W, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H has a TDP of up to 65W. This means the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U uses less power and produces less heat, which helps extend battery life and requires less cooling.
This matters most for mobile devices, where battery life and operating temperature are key factors. If you travel often and need a laptop with good battery life, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is the better fit.
Integrated Graphics
While the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has better single-core performance and power efficiency, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H has the advantage in integrated graphics. The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H uses Arc Graphics with 8 cores, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has only 4 graphics cores. This means the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is stronger at graphics work such as photo editing, video rendering, or light gaming.
That said, both chips use integrated graphics, so neither can compare with discrete graphics cards like the GeForce RTX or Radeon RX. If you are a content creator or need to handle heavy graphics workloads, a discrete graphics card is the better option.
Intel Core Ultra 7 155H
Next, let's look at the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, another processor in Intel's new lineup. Unlike the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H has 16 cores instead of 12, along with a lower base clock of 1.4 GHz.
Superior Multi-Core Performance
Although the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H has a lower base clock than the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U, it has a significant advantage in multi-core performance. In the multi-core Cinebench R23 test, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H scored 13,144 points, up to 37% higher than the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U at just 9,526 points.
This shows that the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is stronger in tasks that need many processing threads, such as video editing, 3D rendering, or multitasking apps. If you are a content creator or need to handle tasks that demand multi-core power, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is the better choice.
Stronger Integrated Graphics
Beyond its multi-core lead, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H also has the advantage in integrated graphics. It uses Arc Graphics with 8 cores, which is more powerful than the 4 graphics cores of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U.
This means the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is stronger in graphics-related tasks such as photo editing, video rendering, or light gaming. If you are a content creator or need to handle graphics work regularly, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is the better choice.
Power Consumption and Temperature
The weak point of the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, however, is its higher power draw compared with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U. The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H has a TDP of up to 65W, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U has just 57W. This means the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H produces more heat and needs a more effective cooling system.
If you travel often and need a laptop with good battery life, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is the better fit. If you mostly use your machine at the office or at home, and need a powerful chip for tasks that demand multi-core power, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is the better choice.
Overall Verdict on the Core Ultra 7 155H vs 155U
After comparing the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U and the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, we can see that each chip has its own strengths and weaknesses.
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is a good choice for people who want a laptop with good battery life and lower power consumption that still handles everyday tasks like web browsing, word processing, or light gaming well. It also has a higher base clock, which makes for smoother day-to-day use.
The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, meanwhile, is the better choice for people who need multitasking power and graphics performance, such as content creators, technical professionals, or enthusiastic gamers. This chip has superior multi-core performance and stronger integrated graphics, though its power consumption and operating temperature are also higher.
So when choosing between the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U and the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, you need to think carefully about how you will use your laptop. If you need a portable laptop with good battery life, choose the Intel Core Ultra 7 155U. If you are looking for a powerful chip for tasks that demand multi-core power and graphics performance, the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H is the better fit.
