Big Battlemage is becoming a hot topic of discussion across tech forums as Intel prepares to launch a completely new discrete graphics card codenamed BMG-G31. Despite somewhat indifferent and not yet explosive reactions from the gaming community recently, the giant is still steadily pushing its business forward with a highly promising product.
Revealing the massive configuration of Big Battlemage and Arc B770
The existence of the G31 graphics processor was recently indirectly but reliably confirmed after it unexpectedly appeared on Intel’s official website. Specifically, this codename is listed as one of the GPUs supported by VTune Profiler—the company’s own in-depth performance analysis tool. Reports from insiders suggest that the first graphics card to be honored with this new chip may be tentatively named Arc B770, although Intel has not yet issued any official confirmation regarding this naming.
The name “Big Battlemage” has actually been circulating in tech news for over a year, with a series of important technical specifications leaked from various sources. According to compiled reports, the G31 will be a much more powerful successor to its predecessor, the G21—the chip currently powering the existing Arc B580 and B570 models. The first significant upgrade lies in the manufacturing process, as this new chip is rumored to be manufactured by TSMC on an advanced 5nm process and will possess a significantly larger die size compared to the G21.
When integrated into the Arc B770 card model, the G31 GPU is expected to feature up to 32 Xe2 cores. This represents a massive hardware leap, corresponding to a 60% increase over the 20 Xe2 cores found in the B580 model and far exceeding the 18 cores on the B570 model. Additionally, rumors suggest that the Arc B770 may ship with up to 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, operating on a 256-bit memory bus with the modern PCIe 5.0 x16 interface. Other reported technical specifications include memory speeds that can reach 19 Gbps and a memory bandwidth of up to 608 GB/s, promising high-speed graphics data processing capabilities.
Power consumption performance and expected launch timing
However, great power often comes with high energy consumption. An unofficial leaked source has indicated that the G31 may consume significantly more power than its predecessor, the G21. Based on information from a shipping manifest on NBD, an engineering sample of this upcoming Battlemage card was recorded with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of up to 300W. This figure is much higher than the 190W rating of the Arc B580 and even surpasses the 225W TDP of the first-generation high-end card series, the Arc A770.
As of now, only the G31 version aimed at gamers has come to light. However, experts expect Intel to also announce a Pro variant for professional workloads with a massive memory capacity of up to 32GB. Regarding the launch roadmap, this new GPU is rumored to officially debut alongside Intel’s Panther Lake processors at the CES 2026 tech exhibition in January 2026. That said, it is highly likely that we will only get to see the Arc B770 model at this event, while the Pro version may be scheduled for release at a later date.
