SLC NAND: Fastest and Most Durable

SLC (Single-Level Cell) stores 1 bit per memory cell (0 or 1), enabling fast read/write speeds, low error rates, and high endurance, reaching 90,000 to 100,000 program/erase cycles per cell. Due to its superior durability and performance, SLC is typically used in industrial systems, servers, and high-speed applications. TLC NAND: Low Cost, High Capacity

However, TLC has slower read/write speeds, lower endurance (approximately 500 – 3,000 cycles), and is more prone to data errors, making it unsuitable for heavy tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, or intense gaming.

PLC NAND: The Future Technology

PLC (Penta-Level Cell) is the latest NAND technology, storing 5 bits per memory cell, reducing costs and increasing storage capacity. However, PLC requires each memory cell to distinguish up to 32 voltage levels, resulting in lower speed, stability, and durability compared to other NAND types.

As of mid-2025, PLC is still in the testing phase at manufacturers like Kioxia, Western Digital, and has not yet appeared in commercial SSDs. It is expected that PLC will be applied in high-capacity, low-cost storage solutions for long-term archiving.
